New York and Catalytic Converter Laws

Effective June 1st, 2013, the state of New York has adopted the laws originated by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) FOR SELECT VEHICLE YEARS and ONLY THOSE WITH CALIFORNIA EMISSIONS.  The CARB laws only apply if your vehicle is a model year of 1993, 1994, 1996, or newer than 1996.  It does not apply to vehicles from 1995, and it does not apply to vehicles with Federal or EPA emissions.

Although effective June 1st, the NY DEC (New York Department of Conservation) will not enforce these new laws until January 1st, 2014.

If your vehicle is from 1995, or newer than 1993, then you can purchase whichever emission standard your vehicle has.  If your vehicle has California Emissions, you need not purchase a "California Legal" catalytic converter.

Alternatively, if your vehicle is a 1993, 1994, 1996, or is newer than 1996, AND its Emissions Standard is Federal or EPA, then you also need not purchase a "California Legal" catalytic converter.

If your vehicle is from 1993, 1994, 1996, or newer than 1996, and your vehicle has "California Emissions", then you need a "California Legal" replacement catalytic converter.  Please visit our sister site http://www.californialegalconverters.com/store/
